Think You Can't Afford Health Insurance?

For many Americans, these days can be fraught with anxiety over bills, specifically medical expenditures.

While more consumers are covered by health insurance these days through an employer’s plan, being young enough to remain under their parents coverage, or be on one of their own, countless others still go day-to-day without proper health insurance coverage. As a result, worrying about this can actually lead at times to medical ills.

So, what can the man or woman who doesn’t have coverage do in order to get them covered now and for the future?

Research is Critical

Just as research is critical when it comes to making sure patients are getting the best care in hospitals and doctor’s offices, research is also key for the consumer looking for the right health insurance plan.

Whether the individual is aware of Obamacare subsidies or not, it is important that one leave no stone unturned in the quest for the best health insurance coverage.

Among the ways to go about this:

  • Internet – As many consumers know, the Internet is a treasure-trove of information. Sure, some of it is not exactly worth your time, but much of it can be beneficial when it comes to healthcare coverage. If you’re in the process of looking for the right health insurance plan, use the web to see which plans are available in your state (including whether or not your state has its own exchange or is part of the federal Obamacare exchange). By simply going to Google or another search engine, type in terms such as health insurance, healthcare coverage and Obamacare subsidies among others. You will find a wealth of information related to health insurance needs, some of which will definitely be of assistance to you and/or your family;
  • Workplace – Another great option is seeing if you qualify at work for health insurance coverage. While this will typically be spelled out to you when you are hired, don’t just assume you will be covered or not covered once your probation period ends. The laws vary as to who can be covered and who won’t depending on company size etc., so be inquisitive. If you are eligible through work, make sure your HR person provides you with the proper details, those including when you are eligible, how much will be deducted from your paycheck and more. For those individuals who are self-employed, make sure you do your research as noted above to find the best plan for your needs;
  • Networking – Finally, make sure you network (talking to friends/family, using social media etc.) to see what health insurance options are available to you and/or your loved ones. More and more health insurance providers are using social media to promote their products and interact with consumers. By going to company’s Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram and other like-pages, you can become more knowledgeable about their offerings.

If health insurance is still a need of yours, there is likely an affordable plan awaiting you today.
